Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has responded to Wayne Rooney’s comments after their FA Cup defeat to Fulham.
United were knocked out of the competition on Sunday night after losing in a penalty shootout. Before that, Calvin Bassey had put Fulham ahead, but Bruno Fernandes scored the equalizer for United.
After the match, Amorim told reporters that his goal is to win the Premier League with Manchester United. However, Rooney, who was working as a pundit for BBC, called that ambition “naive.”
Amorim did not agree with Rooney’s statement and hit back, saying that talking from a TV studio is easy.
“The Premier League is our goal,” Amorim said. “But being naive would be thinking we can do it this season or be the best contender next season. Right now, everyone thinks they know everything.
“I understand that. I was a pundit myself after I retired, and I know how easy it is to talk.”
With United out of the FA Cup, Amorim’s focus will now be on improving the team and pushing for success in the Premier League.
