A former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Maharazu Tsiga, has regained his freedom after spending 22 days in the hands of bandits.
Reports confirmed that he was released on Friday and is currently receiving medical care at an undisclosed hospital for security reasons.
Tsiga was kidnapped on February 6, 2025, at his home in Tsiga village, Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State. During the attack, two people were injured, and one of the gunmen was accidentally shot dead by his gang member.
The kidnappers, led by a notorious bandit leader known as Babaro, had demanded N250 million as ransom. However, it remains unclear if any payment was made to secure his release.
So far, government officials and security agencies, including the Katsina State Police Command, have not commented on the situation.
Tsiga’s abduction is part of the growing security concerns in northern Nigeria, where banditry and kidnappings continue to pose serious threats to communities.
