Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has spoken about his recent meeting with US President Donald Trump, saying it did not go well.
The meeting, held at the White House, was expected to focus on a minerals deal that Ukraine hoped would lead to security guarantees from the US as part of a ceasefire agreement.
However, the discussion quickly turned tense. Trump and Vice President JD Vance openly criticized Zelenskyy, accusing him of “gambling with World War Three.” This led to a heated argument between the leaders.
After the meeting, Zelenskyy admitted in an interview with Fox News that the situation was “not good for both sides.” When asked if he owed Trump an apology, he did not give a direct answer. Instead, he said, “I think we have to be very open and honest. And I’m not sure we did anything bad.”
Due to the disagreement, Zelenskyy left the White House earlier than planned. A press conference that was supposed to announce the minerals deal was also canceled.
Despite the conflict, Zelenskyy believes his relationship with Trump can still be repaired. However, this meeting highlighted ongoing tensions between the two leaders and the challenges Ukraine faces in securing support from the US.
