PETROAN intervenes to halt Nigeria shutdown over unpaid N100bn bridging claim

The Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) has taken action to prevent a nationwide fuel crisis by engaging the government over unpaid bridging claims.

PETROAN’s President, Billy Gillis-Harry, said the association has started discussions with the Nigerian government to ensure the payment of N100 billion owed to petroleum marketers.

This move comes after the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) issued a seven-day ultimatum, warning of a possible shutdown if the debt is not settled.

In response, PETROAN urged marketers to avoid shutting down their operations and instead opt for dialogue to resolve the issue. The association emphasized that a shutdown could lead to fuel scarcity, economic problems, and hardship for Nigerians.

Gillis-Harry reassured members that PETROAN is committed to finding solutions that will keep the downstream petroleum sector stable. He called on other industry stakeholders to join the push for a quick resolution, as the unpaid claims affect the entire industry and the Nigerian economy.

He encouraged all parties to work together and ensure that the government addresses the payment issue without causing disruptions in fuel supply.

This intervention by PETROAN aims to prevent a fuel crisis and protect businesses, consumers, and the Nigerian economy from unnecessary hardship.
