The United States has made it clear that Ukraine will not be joining NATO. The US National Security Adviser, Michael Waltz, said that the idea of Ukraine becoming a NATO member is not being discussed.
Speaking to Fox News on Monday, Waltz explained that while the US is committed to NATO and its agreements with member countries, security support for Ukraine is a separate issue. His statement comes as President Donald Trump continues efforts to end the three-year war between Russia and Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently said he was willing to step down as leader if it would bring peace to Ukraine. He also suggested that Ukraine’s NATO membership could be a possible trade-off.
Despite Zelenskyy’s statement, the US has confirmed that NATO membership for Ukraine is not an option at the moment.
“Yes, I’m happy, if it is for the peace of Ukraine,” Zelenskyy said at a press conference in Kyiv.
“If you need me to leave this chair, I am ready to do that, and I also can exchange it for Nato membership for Ukraine.”
