The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has said that more leaders from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) will soon leave their party and join APC.
Speaking at an empowerment event in Kano on Sunday, Ganduje expressed confidence that APC’s policies and leadership style were drawing opposition members to their side.
He thanked APC supporters for standing firm despite pressure from other political parties, particularly NNPP, which he described as a “dying party.” Ganduje assured that soon, many senior politicians, including lawmakers and former officials from NNPP, would switch to APC.
His statement comes as rumors spread that some key NNPP members are unhappy with their party’s leadership and may be planning to leave.
Additionally, controversy has arisen over Ganduje and Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin attending private events hosted by an opposition senator in Kano.
Senator Kawu Sumaila, representing Kano South under NNPP, left APC before the 2023 elections due to leadership struggles within the party. Now, with more NNPP members considering a move to APC, political tensions in Kano.
