I bought my own chair after Obaseki took his when he left office – Edo state governo, Okpebholo

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has revealed that he had to personally buy a new office chair after his predecessor, Godwin Obaseki, left with the official one that had Nigeria’s Coat of Arms.

Speaking on Politics Today on Channels TV, Okpebholo shared his experience since taking office. While he has no plans to personally investigate Obaseki’s administration, he assured that the system would look into financial matters and recover any misused funds.

“I am not the one probing them. The system will probe them,” he said. “A lot of money is tied up in different places, and when the time comes, those funds will be accounted for. I will not cover anything up.”

Okpebholo further revealed that he had to buy his own office chair because Obaseki took the previous one.

“When I got to the office, I had to buy my seat with my own money. Obaseki took his chair, the one with the Nigerian Coat of Arms. If someone can take an office chair, imagine what else they could take,” he said.

The governor attributed his election victory to divine intervention, insisting that he would still win even if he contested again in 20 years.

“Can you name one godfather who supported me?” Okpebholo asked when questioned about his political backing.

He stated that Edo people wanted change and voted for him despite facing challenges.

“When I won my Senate seat, there was a sitting senator. At that time, we had no water, no electricity, no good roads, no money, and no fuel. Everything was against us, yet we won,” he said.

According to him, the people’s desire for change was stronger than any political advantage the opposition had.
