Gov Yusuf bans manual labour in Kano schools after meeting students digging toilet pipeline

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has banned teachers from making students do manual labour, whether inside or outside school premises.

This decision came after the governor made an unexpected visit to the School for Arabic Studies in Kano. There, he saw students digging a toilet pipeline, which left him visibly upset.

Governor Yusuf questioned the headmaster about why students were given such heavy tasks. The headmaster explained that the work was done after school hours, but the governor was not satisfied with the explanation. He insisted that students should focus on their studies and not be used for manual labour.

“Schools should provide education and moral guidance, not physical labour,” the governor stated.

To prevent such incidents in the future, Governor Yusuf directed that all school repairs and maintenance projects be submitted to the Ministry of Education or his office for proper handling.

During his visit, he also promised that his government would renovate old and damaged school buildings, including the school’s mosque.

This move reinforces the government’s commitment to improving education and ensuring students learn in a proper environment.
