The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has assured the public that there has been no system collapse in the country this year. Instead, recent power disruptions were caused by line tripping.
In a statement posted on its official X handle, TCN clarified that the national grid has remained stable in 2024.
The company explained that on February 12, a transmission line from Omotosho to Ikeja West tripped, while another line from Benin to Egbin was undergoing scheduled maintenance. This led to power outages in parts of Abuja, Lagos, and Osogbo, but other regions were unaffected.
TCN also confirmed that power has since been fully restored to the affected areas.
The company emphasized that the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) operates under regulations set by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
It added that only the National Control Centre System Operator or its backup, the National Supplementary Control Centre (SNCC), is authorized to provide public updates on grid status.
This statement comes after TCN successfully restored electricity to areas affected by last Wednesday’s blackout.
