The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has strongly demanded to be included in the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) Board.
The student body insists that as the main beneficiaries of the fund, they must have a voice in how student loans are managed.
In a letter addressed to NELFUND’s Managing Director, Akintunde Sawyerr, and Board Chairman, Jim Ovia, NANS protested their exclusion from the board.
The letter, signed by NANS President Comrade Lucky Emonede, warned that if students are not given a seat at the table, they will shut down the venue of the board’s upcoming meeting.
NANS emphasized that student loans directly impact their education and future, so they should not be left out of important discussions.
Nigerian students demand NELFUND representationThey made it clear that their demand is not a request but a final warning. If their representation is not secured, they will mobilize students nationwide to disrupt the meeting.
The student body has expressed frustration over being sidelined for too long and insists they will no longer be spectators in decisions that affect them. Their message is clear: “No student, no meeting.”
This demand raises questions about inclusivity in decision-making for education funding in Nigeria. Will NELFUND respond to NANS’ demands, or will the students take action as promised?
