The Labour Party has announced that Peter Obi, the former Governor of Anambra State, will be their candidate for the 2027 general elections.
Abayomi Arabambi, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, confirmed this in an interview on Politics Today, a show on Channels Television.
Arabambi also expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will face strong competition in the upcoming elections.
Arabambi emphasized that the Labour Party is serious about the 2027 elections and is ready to challenge Tinubu again with Obi as their candidate.
He also responded to the resignation of actor-turned-politician, Kenneth Okonkwo, from the party, calling it a relief for the Labour Party. Arabambi accused Okonkwo of not being loyal to the party and working for the ruling APC instead.
Despite Okonkwo’s exit, Arabambi assured the public that the Labour Party is not in a leadership crisis and is not going anywhere.
He dismissed claims that the party is facing extinction and said such ideas are just rumors spread by the party’s critics.
In the 2023 elections, Peter Obi ran for president but came third, behind Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
