The political atmosphere in Osun State is tense as major parties—PDP, APC, and APP—react to a recent Appeal Court ruling concerning the local government elections.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has assured residents that preparations for the February 22 local government election are still on track despite the court’s decision.
The PDP state chairman, Sunday Bisi, dismissed claims by the All Progressives Congress (APC) that the ruling had stopped the election.
He urged residents to remain calm, accusing the APC of trying to disrupt democracy. Bisi also confirmed that the PDP would challenge the judgment at the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, the Action Peoples Party (APP) has stated that the 2022 Osun local government election remains nullified and is unaffected by the Appeal Court’s decision.
APP chairman, Odesola Oluseye Titus, clarified that no court order had reinstated the officials elected in 2022. He urged voters to prepare for the upcoming election and actively participate.
The Osun State House of Assembly has also raised concerns, accusing the APC of planning to incite violence following the court ruling. Speaker Adewale Egbedun called on the Inspector General of Police to ensure peace in the state.
The Assembly also alleged that former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, now a federal minister, was using his influence to manipulate security agencies.
However, the APC has denied the allegations. The party’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, criticized the Speaker for blaming Oyetola.
He accused the PDP of accepting court rulings only when they favored them. The APC insisted that it was following legal procedures to challenge any injustice.
As the February 22 election approaches, political tension continues to rise in Osun. Residents are watching closely as parties prepare for both legal and electoral battles.
