Prince Harry can stay in the U.S. for now, as former President Donald Trump has said he has no plans to deport him.
Harry’s immigration status has been questioned in a legal case in Washington, D.C. The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, claims Harry may have hidden past drug use when applying for his U.S. visa. Normally, such details could disqualify a person from getting a visa.
However, Trump told The New York Post that he is not interested in removing Harry from the country. “I don’t want to do that,” Trump said. “I’ll leave him alone. He’s got enough problems with his wife. She’s terrible.”
Trump also spoke highly of Prince William, Harry’s older brother, whom he met privately in Paris in December. “I think William is a great young man,” he said.
Over the years, Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, have criticized Trump. Meghan once called him “divisive” and “misogynistic.” In response, Trump has previously called Harry “whipped” and said, “I think poor Harry is being led around by the nose.”
The Heritage Foundation has used Harry’s memoir, Spare, as evidence that he admitted to using illegal drugs. They are suing the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to release Harry’s visa records.
The think tank argues that Harry may have received special treatment from the Biden administration when he and Meghan moved to California in 2020 after their controversial exit from the royal family. However, Trump’s latest comments suggest he has no interest in taking action against Harry.
