Your tenure witnessed monumental corruption and insecurity, APC chieftain replies Buhari

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Josef Onoh, has strongly criticized former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

He disagreed with Buhari’s claim that his government improved security and the economy, saying that his eight-year tenure was marked by widespread corruption and insecurity.

Onoh stated that insecurity worsened under Buhari’s leadership, affecting different parts of Nigeria.

He backed his argument with statistics, stating that from 2015 to 2023, over 98,000 people lost their lives due to violence. According to him, Nigeria had never seen such insecurity, not even during the Civil War.

He pointed out that under Buhari, Nigeria ranked poorly in global security indexes. In 2019, the country was the third most terrorized nation in the world, behind Afghanistan and Iraq.

He also noted that states like Kaduna suffered from ethnic and religious violence, which worsened due to the government’s failure to act.

Onoh also accused Buhari’s administration of mishandling the economy. He argued that insecurity scared away foreign investors, and businesses struggled to survive.

He mentioned that one of West Africa’s biggest fish markets in Baga was abandoned because of Boko Haram’s activities, and only under Tinubu’s government has business started returning.

He added that Buhari’s administration was filled with corruption, citing an example of a recharge card seller who suddenly became a billionaire and a Central Bank governor who allegedly used public funds to run for president.

Onoh claimed that the economic challenges Nigerians are facing today are a result of Buhari’s poor leadership.

He argued that President Tinubu is left to clean up the mess and handle the consequences of Buhari’s failures.

In his final remarks, Onoh mocked Buhari’s administration, calling it “the Las Vegas of insecurity and corruption,” and criticized the favoritism and nepotism that defined his government.
