Massacre of Christians pushing Biafrans out of Nigeria – Orabueze alleges

Dr. Ngozi Orabueze, a key member of the United States of Biafra (USB), has said that Biafrans are desperate to leave Nigeria due to ongoing persecution and marginalization, especially of Christians in the South-East region.

Speaking in an interview with American author and blogger Robert Spencer, Orabueze explained that the suffering of Biafrans has worsened over the years. She posted the interview on X, highlighting the reasons for seeking independence.

According to Orabueze, Biafrans have been facing discrimination and violence for decades. She linked this persecution to the 1967 civil war and claimed that killings of Christians in the South-East are a major reason for their renewed push for independence.

She alleged that the Nigerian government has allowed terrorists to join security forces and sent them to the South-East to attack those supporting Biafra’s independence.

“Biafrans cannot stay in a country that integrates terrorists into security agencies,” she stated.

Orabueze also spoke about the arrest of Simon Ekpa, the Prime Minister of the USB, by Finnish authorities in November 2024. She claimed his detention was based on a weak accusation of inciting terrorism.

“How can you incite people that are begging to leave? Our prime minister was arrested on a flimsy excuse,” she said.

She further alleged that since December 2024, hundreds of Christians in Biafra land have been killed by terrorists. According to her, the Nigerian government has not addressed the crisis, leaving Christians vulnerable.

Orabueze emphasized that Biafrans have the right to choose their leaders and build their own nation. She expressed hope that the US government would support their cause.

“The expectations of Biafra are that we get support from the USA. We are already seeing some signs of that, and we are very happy where we are right now,” she said.

Orabueze also clarified the roles of key figures in the movement, stating that Nnamdi Kanu leads the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), while Simon Ekpa serves as Prime Minister of the United States of Biafra.
