The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has announced that the Warri Refinery is currently undergoing routine maintenance.
This comes just a month after it resumed operations, processing 125,000 barrels per day.
NNPC also dismissed rumors of an explosion at the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC).
In a statement signed by its Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, the company clarified that operations were intentionally paused for necessary repairs.
According to NNPC, maintenance work started on January 25, 2025, and is essential to keeping the refinery running smoothly. The company assured that operations would resume within a few days.
The maintenance includes work on key equipment and field instruments to ensure the production of quality petroleum products like Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) and Kerosene.
Despite the ongoing maintenance, NNPC confirmed that diesel (AGO) loading has continued at an average of eight trucks per day.
The company reassured stakeholders that there is a sufficient supply of petroleum products and no fuel shortage.
The Warri Refinery resumed operations recently, following the restart of the Port Harcourt Refinery, which processes 60,000 barrels per day.
The Nigerian government had approved $1.5 billion in 2021 to rehabilitate both the Warri and Kaduna refineries.
Last week, the Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria confirmed that its members have started loading fuel from the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries.
NNPC reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a steady fuel supply and thanked stakeholders for their patience during the maintenance period.
