The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit (Taskforce) has arrested 12 people suspected of being land grabbers in the Ikeja area of Lagos. These individuals were reportedly causing trouble for property owners on NERDC Road.
According to CSP Adetayo Akerele, the chairman of the taskforce, the arrests were made after receiving reports from the public. People had complained that these suspects were preventing rightful property owners from using their land.
The taskforce also found out that the suspects allegedly attacked a man named Mr. Ashafa from Prestige Hotel in Ikeja. Witnesses said they came armed with dangerous weapons.
Akerele stated that stopping land grabbing is a major responsibility of the taskforce. He warned that if such illegal activities continue, they could disrupt development projects and cause financial losses for Lagos residents.
He also sent a strong warning to anyone involved in land grabbing, telling them to stop or face legal action.
After their arrest, the 12 suspects were taken to court, where they pleaded not guilty to the charges. Akerele assured the public that the Lagos State Taskforce is determined to maintain law and order.
He encouraged residents to report any suspicious or illegal land activities to the authorities, promising that the government will take action to protect lawful property owners.
