The heated argument between Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and former Police Service Commission Commissioner, Hajia Naja’atu Muhammad, has drawn in former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai.
The row started when Muhammad posted a TikTok video accusing Ribadu of hypocrisy regarding his past criticism of President Bola Tinubu.
In the video, Muhammad claimed that Ribadu, while heading the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), had described Tinubu as one of the most corrupt governors in Nigeria.
However, she pointed out that Ribadu now works in Tinubu’s administration, which she believes contradicts his earlier views.
Ribadu’s lawyer responded, denying that Ribadu ever made such statements and asking Muhammad to retract her claims and apologize.
Muhammad, however, refused, standing by her comments and saying the public records would show that Ribadu had indeed made such allegations.
El-Rufai, in support of Muhammad’s position, suggested that Ribadu might be suffering from amnesia, referencing old records to back up Muhammad’s claims.
He pointed to Senate proceedings from 2006 and a Daily Trust report from February 2007, both confirming that Ribadu had criticized Tinubu at the time.
El-Rufai also mentioned a Federal Executive Council meeting from the same year where Ribadu allegedly made similar statements about sitting officials.
El-Rufai’s comments have added fuel to the fire, as he directly challenged Ribadu’s denial, accusing him of changing his stance and failing to acknowledge his past criticisms.
The dispute continues to stir up conversations about integrity and consistency in Nigerian politics.
