Agbo Major has been officially elected as the new National Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
This happened on Tuesday during a national convention held at the RockView Hotel in Apapa, Lagos. Delegates and party officers from both national and state levels gathered for the event.
In addition to Agbo Major, other key leaders were elected. These include Oginni Olaposi as the National Secretary, Chief Felix Chukwurah as Deputy National Chairman (South), Mr. Adetoyese Omokanye as National Treasurer, Babayo Muhammed as Deputy National Chairman (North), and Abdulrasaq Abdulsallam as National Publicity Secretary.
The delegates also chose Hajia Aisha Kade as National Woman Leader, Edward Ofomona as National Youth Leader, and Omolara Johnson as National Organizing Secretary.
The convention, which started at 9 p.m., concluded at around 4 a.m. on Wednesday. It also saw participation from members of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT), National Working Committee (NEC), and other elected officials from across Nigeria.
This election follows a court ruling from November 1, 2024, by the Abia High Court, which instructed the NNPP BoT to reorganize the party, starting with the ward congresses and moving up to the national convention.
The court also directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize the newly restructured leadership.
According to Boniface Aniebonam, the founder and chairman of the NNPP BoT, the restructuring process has now been completed, with this national convention marking the final step in electing new leaders for the party.
With the new leadership now in place, the NNPP is set to move forward with a fresh approach to Nigerian politics, with Agbo Major at the helm.
