The Nigerian Army has taken a big step in the fight against banditry by raiding a notorious criminal hideout in Karim Lamido, Taraba State.
The operation, carried out by the 6 Brigade on Sunday, February 1, 2025, led to the death of one bandit, while 23 others, including 19 men and 4 women, surrendered without resistance.
Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Captain Olubodunde Oni, confirmed the development in a statement on Monday, February 3, 2025.
According to him, the military acted based on intelligence reports about the location of the bandits.
When the troops arrived, the criminals opened fire, but the soldiers responded immediately, overwhelming them.
Realizing they had no chance, 23 bandits gave up and surrendered.
Further investigations revealed that the criminals were originally from Plateau State.
They had paid a local chief in Amar village the sum of ₦1.5 million to acquire land and set up their camp.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, assured the people of Taraba that the military is committed to protecting them and maintaining peace.
He encouraged residents to report any suspicious activities to security forces, emphasizing that community support is vital in the fight against crime.
