Trump says he’s not “100% sure” he can’t run again for president

Donald Trump, the former US president, recently made a surprising comment about possibly running for a third term. He said he’s not “100% sure” he can’t run again, jokingly asking Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, “I’m not sure, am I allowed to run again, Mike? I better not get you involved in that.”

“I’ve raised a lot of money for the next race, that I assume I can’t use for myself, but I’m not 100% sure,” Trump said Monday, January 27 at the House Republican Members Conference dinner in Doral, Florida.

This is not the first time Trump has hinted at a third term. Last Sunday in Las Vegas, he said it would be “the greatest honor of my life to serve not once, but twice or three times.”

Some Republican politicians, like Rep. Andy Ogles from Tennessee, have even talked about changing the US Constitution to allow Trump to run for a third term. However, changing the Constitution is very hard. It hasn’t been amended since 1992, and making changes would require either a two-thirds vote in both the House of Representatives and the Senate (which is unlikely due to the current political balance) or a constitutional convention, which hasn’t happened since the 18th century. To actually ratify any changes, three-fourths of state legislatures would need to approve them.

At a conference dinner, Trump also shared his fondness for the TikTok app, stating he believes it should be sold by its Chinese parent company, ByteDance.

“China won’t be involved,” he said while insisting “a lot of people” are seeking to purchase the platform.
