Fouad Oki, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, has called on Mudashiru Obasa, the impeached Speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly, to either return to his basic duties as a legislator or resign.
Obasa’s impeachment was reported last week, but the former Speaker insists he remains in office, claiming the process involved the use of a fake mace. Meanwhile, Mojisola Meranda has officially taken over as the new Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, Oki stressed that Obasa should forget about regaining his position as Speaker. Instead, he advised Obasa to focus on serving his constituents in Agege or step down entirely.
Oki said, “The events in the Lagos Assembly show how politics is structured with hierarchy, control, and checks and balances. There’s no shame in what has happened—it’s simply the way politics works.”
He continued, “Obasa has two choices: return to his legislative role and continue making laws for the benefit of Lagosians, or resign and allow someone else to take over. This is how politics evolves; you win some, you lose some. It’s time to move forward.”
Oki’s comments highlight the lessons in governance and the importance of prioritizing public service over personal ambitions. He emphasized that understanding and respecting political structures are crucial for progress in leadership.
As Lagos State continues to navigate this political shift, all eyes remain on Obasa and how he responds to the situation.
