A deadly Israeli drone strike hit a vehicle near the West Bank town of Qabatiya on Friday, killing two people, according to the Palestinian health ministry. This attack is part of a larger military operation in the city of Jenin, which has been underway for four days. The Israeli military stated that the airstrike targeted a vehicle carrying a terrorist cell, but did not provide further details.
The operation in Jenin is aimed at Palestinian militant groups, which Israel claims are supported by Iran. The offensive began shortly after a ceasefire took effect in Gaza. Palestinian health officials report that at least 12 people have been killed during the operation, including two members of Hamas’ armed wing. Additionally, the Israeli military has arrested 20 suspects and seized weapons.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights spokesperson, Thameen Al-Kheetan, expressed deep concern over the use of force, noting that the operation raised serious concerns about unnecessary or disproportionate action.
While fighting in Gaza has paused under a six-week ceasefire backed by the United States, Israel continues its operations in Jenin, claiming it is part of a broader fight against Iranian-backed groups in the West Bank, southern Lebanon, and Yemen.
