Boko Haram: CDS Musa hints on possible sources of funding

Boko Haram, a terrorist group in Nigeria, has caused devastating harm since its founding in 2002. The group has led to over 300,000 child deaths and displaced millions of people, creating severe food crises. While the Nigerian military has been working hard to combat this threat, questions remain about how Boko Haram continues to get funding.

General Christopher Musa, Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, recently spoke about this issue during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today. He highlighted some possible ways the group might be receiving funds.

According to General Musa, Boko Haram gets money through criminal activities such as kidnappings, armed robbery, and ransom collections. He also pointed to the possibility of external sources supporting the group. During military operations in the northeast, soldiers captured some Boko Haram members with large amounts of foreign currency. This discovery raised suspicions about where these funds are coming from.

General Musa also suggested that some foreign countries could be secretly backing Boko Haram to destabilize Nigeria. He explained that not everyone wants Nigeria to succeed, saying, “Some people predicted Nigeria wouldn’t survive until 2015, but here we are in 2025, still standing strong.”

The fight against Boko Haram continues, and uncovering their sources of funding remains an important step in defeating the group and restoring peace in affected regions.
