In response to mass deportation threats from former US President Donald Trump, Mexico is taking swift action to provide aid for deported migrants. The Mexican government has announced a program called “Mexico Embraces You,” which focuses on creating shelters to support both Mexican citizens and foreigners being sent back from the United States.
As part of this effort, Mexican soldiers and navy personnel are setting up emergency shelters near the US-Mexico border. In the northeastern city of Matamoros, located across from Brownsville, Texas, olive-green tents have been erected on a large sports field. This shelter, one of three in the Tamaulipas state, is expected to accommodate up to 3,000 people.
President Claudia Sheinbaum shared that Mexico will provide humanitarian assistance to migrants from other countries before helping them return to their homelands. This initiative highlights the country’s commitment to aiding those impacted by US immigration policies.
On Monday, Trump declared a national emergency at the southern border, promising to deport large numbers of migrants. This announcement has put significant pressure on Mexico to prepare for an influx of deportees.
