The former First Lady of Delta State, Edna Ibru, has died in London, United Kingdom. She was the wife of Chief Felix Ibru, the first civilian governor of Delta State.
Her son, Paul, confirmed her passing in a heartfelt statement. He shared that she passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, after a brief illness.
“Our amazing mother passed into glory after a short illness. She was full of life, and we never expected her to leave us so soon. However, we cannot question the will of God in her precious life,” the statement read.
Edna Ibru was admired for her vibrant personality and kindness. She was known for being humorous, down-to-earth, and a loving figure to many. She often played the role of a mediator and was cherished for her storytelling and care for others.
In addition to her role as First Lady, Edna Ibru made history by winning the Miss Nigeria beauty pageant in 1964. She was also the first Nigerian and African to represent the country at the Miss Universe pageant, leaving a significant mark on Nigeria’s history.
The family announced that burial arrangements will be shared at a later date.
