Kiddwaya calls on Nigerian billionaires to make joint bid for TikTok

Reality TV star Kiddwaya, known for his appearance on Big Brother Naija, has urged Nigerian billionaires to consider purchasing TikTok. His suggestion comes as the popular social media app faces a possible ban in the United States.

Kiddwaya expressed his thoughts on social media, questioning why wealthy Nigerians haven’t come together to make a move. He wrote:
“What about all the billionaires in Nigeria? Can we come together and buy TikTok, or is it only for white people?”

The situation with TikTok stems from a law signed by U.S. President Joe Biden in April 2024. The law requires ByteDance, TikTok’s Chinese parent company, to sell the platform or face a shutdown by January 19, 2025.

In December 2024, TikTok appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court, following a meeting between its CEO, Shou Zi Chew, and President-elect Donald Trump. Although Trump expressed a “soft spot” for TikTok, he confirmed that his administration would still assess its future. ByteDance is now waiting for the Supreme Court’s decision, which will determine whether the app can continue operating in the U.S.

Kiddwaya’s suggestion has sparked conversations about whether Nigerian billionaires could take this opportunity to acquire the platform and position Nigeria as a major player in the global tech space.
