Tyler Perry, the famous filmmaker and actor, has taken to social media to criticize insurance companies for dropping policies just before the wildfires ravaged Los Angeles. The 55-year-old star, known for his role as Madea, expressed his frustration with the insurance industry after they canceled policies for thousands of homeowners in fire-prone areas.
In a heartfelt post on Instagram, Perry shared the story of a woman desperately using a garden hose to protect her elderly parents’ home, after their insurance was canceled. He described the insurers’ actions as “pure greed,” saying that it was heart-wrenching to see a daughter in such a difficult position.
Perry wrote, “Watching a daughter use a garden hose to try and protect her 90-year-old parents’ home because their insurance was cancelled was just gut-wrenching to me. Does anyone else find it appalling that insurance companies can take billions of dollars out of communities for years and then, all of a sudden, be allowed to cancel millions of policies for the very people they became rich on?”
He added, “People who have paid premiums all of their lives are left with nothing because of pure greed.”
As the fires continue to spread across Los Angeles County, the death toll has reached at least 24, with more people reported missing. Perry has vowed to help those affected and is praying for everyone during this difficult time.
Insurance companies like State Farm, Chubb, and Allstate have been accused of not renewing or issuing policies for high-value properties in areas at risk of fires. This has left many California residents without protection as wildfires, like the Palisades Fire and Eaton Fire, continue to devastate large parts of the region.
The Palisades Fire alone has burned through nearly 24,000 acres, while the Eaton Fire has scorched over 14,000 acres, forcing more than 100,000 people to evacuate their homes. Perry’s comments bring attention to the growing concerns about the financial interests of big insurance companies in the face of natural disasters.
