Real Madrid winger, Vinicius Jr set to buy football club

Real Madrid star Vinícius Júnior is reportedly planning to buy a football club in Portugal’s second division, according to ESPN. The 24-year-old Brazilian winger is exploring business opportunities outside of football as he prepares for his future beyond the pitch.

Vinícius has already built an impressive portfolio, with multiple sponsorship deals and a long-term contract with Nike lasting until 2028. Represented by Roc Nation, he maintains connections with elite athletes from sports like the NBA and NFL, which could be inspiring his foray into club ownership.

The Portuguese second division consists of 18 teams, including reserve sides for major clubs like Benfica and Porto. Among these teams, Portimonense already has a Brazilian owner, Rodiney Sampaio, which highlights the growing interest of Brazilians in the Portuguese football scene.

Vinícius would not be the first active footballer to own a club. His Real Madrid teammate Kylian Mbappé became the majority shareholder of French club Caen in 2024, and N’Golo Kanté owns Belgian third-division side Royal Excelsior Virton.

This potential acquisition marks an exciting step for Vinícius Júnior as he combines his football knowledge and business ambitions. It also signals a growing trend of professional players investing in football clubs to secure their legacies off the field.
