Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway: Construction Reaches Lagos-Ogun Boundary

The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is a landmark project aimed at improving transportation and boosting economic activities across Nigeria’s coastal states. Stretching 700 kilometers, this highway will begin at Ahmadu Bello Way in Victoria Island, Lagos, and extend to Calabar in Cross River State.

This ambitious project will connect eight states along Nigeria’s coastline: Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River. Additionally, two major spurs will branch out. The first will link Badagry to Sokoto, while the second will connect Enugu to Abakaliki, Ogoja, and the Cameroon border.

The highway is being constructed in phases. The ongoing Phase 1, Section 1, covers 47.47 kilometers, starting from the junction of Ahmadu Bello Way and Adetokunbo Ademola Street in Victoria Island to the Lekki Deep Sea Port.

Recently, construction activities have been observed near the Lagos-Ogun border. In Igbogun, Ibeju-Lekki, and Ode-Omi (part of Lagos and Ogun States), workers are actively pushing the project forward. A visit to Araromi, a coastal town in Ondo State, shows that while construction has not yet reached that section, steady progress is being made.

Once completed, the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway will enhance connectivity, reduce travel times, and boost trade along the coastline. It will open up new opportunities for communities and businesses in the region.

This project reflects Nigeria’s commitment to improving its road infrastructure and fostering regional development. Keep following our updates as this monumental highway takes shape!
