U.S. Court Sentences Tunde Ayeni To 10 Years For Internet Fraud Wort $20 Million

Tunde Ayeni, a Nigerian man involved in a large-scale internet fraud scheme, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison by a U.S. court. The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Alabama also ordered him to pay nearly $20 million in restitution to the victims of his fraudulent activities.

Ayeni pleaded guilty to the fraud charges, which led the court to hand down a 120-month sentence. Despite having stopped his fraudulent actions in 2019, Ayeni was still required to repay the victims, totaling $19,599,969 in restitution. The court decided to waive the interest on this amount because it determined that Ayeni was unable to pay it.

Along with Ayeni, his co-conspirators, Feyisayo Oyindola Oginsanwo and Yusuf Olasunkanmi Lasisi, were also involved in the fraud and will have to repay the defrauded individuals and organizations. After serving his prison sentence, it will be decided if Ayeni will be deported or allowed to stay in the U.S. under supervised release for three years, with strict conditions.

Ayeni’s conviction adds him to a growing list of Nigerians who have been sentenced for similar crimes in the U.S., including notable figures like Ray Hushpuppi and Abidemi Rufai.
