The recent decision to lift the ban on solid minerals mining in Zamfara State is a game-changer for the region’s economy. According to the Minister of State for Defense, Hon. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, this move will attract both local and foreign investors, create job opportunities, and address pressing issues like poverty and unemployment.
Speaking to journalists in Gusau, Matawalle shared that he, along with other influential figures, personally appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to lift the mining ban. The president, known for his responsive leadership, immediately granted their request.
This development is expected to pave the way for businesses and companies to relocate to Zamfara, bringing with them much-needed employment opportunities. Matawalle emphasized that reducing unemployment, particularly among young people, could also help lower crime rates in the state.
He also highlighted the severe poverty challenges in the northern region, describing it as the poorest part of the country. “No responsible government can ignore issues like poverty and hunger,” Matawalle remarked.
The minister commended President Tinubu for his efforts to ensure that every region of Nigeria benefits from policies aimed at unity, stability, and growth. With the ban lifted, Zamfara is set to become a hub for mining activities, promising a brighter future for its residents.
