President-elect Donald Trump made a bold promise on December 23 regarding transgender issues. He pledged that on the first day of his second term as president, he would stop what he called “transgender lunacy.” Trump vowed that the official policy of the United States would recognize only two genders: male and female. He also promised to keep men from participating in women’s sports.
“There will only be male and female in America. I will sign executive orders to end child sexual mutilation, get transgender out of the military and out of our elementary schools and middle schools and high schools,” the president-elect said at the AmericaFest conference for young conservatives in Phoenix, Arizona.
These statements come as Republicans prepare to take control of both the White House and Congress. Over recent years, transgender issues have sparked heated debates, with states governed by both Republicans and Democrats taking different approaches. Topics like medical care for transgender individuals and what books about transgender issues are allowed in schools and public libraries have been particularly controversial.
Trump’s remarks highlight his stance on these issues, painting a contrast with the policies of the current Biden administration. Recently, the U.S. Congress approved a defense budget that included a provision to block funding for gender-affirming care for transgender children of military service members.
“On January 20, the United States will turn the page forever on four long, horrible years of failure, incompetence, national decline, and we will inaugurate a new era of peace, prosperity and national greatness,” Trump said, referring to his swearing-in.
“I will end the war in Ukraine. I will stop the chaos in the Middle East, and I will prevent, I promise, World War III.”
“I can proudly proclaim,” he said, “that the golden age of America is upon us.”
With his bold promises, Trump outlined his plans for his second term, emphasizing a return to what he considers traditional values and a shift away from policies he views as liberal.
