Tragedy struck in Okija, a community in Anambra State, as at least 20 people reportedly lost their lives in a stampede.

The unfortunate event occurred on Saturday during a program organized to distribute rice to residents.

Shocking videos shared on social media reveal the aftermath of the stampede, with several lifeless bodies seen on the ground.

Charles Aburime, who serves as the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Anambra State, confirmed the incident.

According to Aburime, the state government is keeping a close watch on the situation and plans to release an official statement soon.

This heartbreaking incident comes just a few days after another stampede in Ibadan, Oyo State, where more than 35 people, many of them children, lost their lives at a carnival.
