The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully destroyed a six-hectare Indian hemp farm in Alaka village, Ogun State. This action is part of their ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region. The operation led to the arrest of four suspects, and investigations are still underway to gather more information on the illegal activities.
Tijani Rabe, the State Commandant of NDLEA, shared these updates during a press conference in Abeokuta. He also discussed the agency’s overall performance for the year 2024. The NDLEA arrested 675 drug offenders this year and seized 9.7 tons of solid drugs and 537.81 liters of liquid-based illicit substances.
One of the key strategies used this year was “Operation Closed Gates,” a special initiative aimed at blocking access routes into the state for drug traffickers. The operation was highly successful in targeting drug syndicates and cutting off illegal drug shipments into Ogun State.
In addition to enforcement, the NDLEA has been proactive in educating the public about the dangers of drug abuse. The agency conducted 128 awareness programs across schools, communities, and workplaces, reaching about 27,648 people. These efforts helped raise awareness and reduce drug-related problems. So far, 221 convictions have been made against drug offenders in the state.
The NDLEA’s continued commitment to fighting drug trafficking and promoting public education is a vital part of their mission to create a safer environment for everyone in Ogun State.
