Police Arrest Fake Navy Officer for Fraud and Impersonation in Yobe

The Yobe State Police Command has made significant progress in fighting cybercrime by arresting a fake Navy officer involved in fraudulent activities. This individual specialized in scamming people, including POS operators and shop owners, by using fake payment receipts.

According to DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, the Police Public Relations Officer, the suspect, Agugu Joshua, was caught with a fake Nigerian Navy ID card. This card was his tool for deceiving unsuspecting victims, making it easier to commit fraud. His arrest occurred during a covert operation conducted by the State Intelligence Department (SID) on December 18, 2024.

The police explained that Agugu used a Kuda bank app to generate fake receipts. He would start by making a small, real transaction to gain the trust of his victims. Then, he would manipulate the app to produce a fake payment receipt, convincing people they had received money when they hadn’t.

Commissioner of Police Garba Ahmed has cautioned the public to stay vigilant and watch out for scams like this. Awareness and caution can help prevent falling victim to such fraudulent schemes.

This arrest highlights the importance of the police’s role in curbing cybercrime and fraud. The public is urged to remain cautious and report suspicious activities to the authorities to ensure a safer community.
