Missouri Couple Charged with Child Abuse for Performing Botched Circumcision at Home Using Utility Tool

A Missouri couple has been charged with child abuse after they performed an unsuccessful circumcision on a child at their home, resulting in injury. Tyler Wade Gibson and his wife, Bailey Alexus Gibson, are facing serious charges for the incident that occurred on November 27.

According to a court affidavit, Tyler, who is not a registered physician, used a utility tool to carry out the circumcision. The procedure caused significant harm to the child, and the parents sought medical care at Lake Regional Hospital later that evening. The child was transferred to University Hospital for further treatment.

Tyler admitted to performing the circumcision despite lacking medical training. He said he had researched the procedure and prayed before carrying it out, but he wasn’t prepared for the excessive bleeding. When asked if he was medically trained, Tyler admitted he wasn’t, but said he sterilized the blade and used pads to catch the blood.

After waiting for four hours at the hospital, Tyler and Bailey left against medical advice. Tyler explained they grew tired of waiting. Both parents have admitted their involvement in the procedure.

Tyler was arrested and is being held at the Morgan County Jail. Bailey is scheduled for a court appearance in January 2025.
