Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has presented a ₦396 billion budget for the 2025 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly. The budget, called the Budget of Economic and Social Development, focuses on industrialization, improving living standards, and fostering economic growth in the state.
According to the governor’s Chief Secretary, Monday Uzor, the total budget is ₦396,589,009,620. It is divided into five major sectors:
- Economic Sector: ₦200.1 billion – the largest portion of the budget.
- Social Sector: ₦141.2 billion.
- Administrative Sector: ₦50.9 billion.
- Law and Justice: ₦4.1 billion.
- Regional Sector: ₦185.5 million – the smallest allocation.
Governor Nwifuru emphasized the government’s commitment to water and sanitation. Significant resources have been allocated to revive water schemes, particularly the Oferekpe Water Scheme. Once completed and properly distributed, the scheme will provide clean water to areas like Izzi, Abakaliki, Ebonyi, Ikwo, Ezza North, and Ezza South.
The budget also prioritizes critical sectors such as health, road infrastructure, commerce, and human capital development. These investments aim to enhance the quality of life for residents and ensure sustainable development in Ebonyi State.
Governor Nwifuru stated that this carefully planned budget reflects his administration’s dedication to achieving economic growth and improving the standard of living for all citizens in the state.
