The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Adamawa State has arrested 14 herdsmen for violating the government’s ban on unauthorized cattle movement. The operation was carried out in Hong, a local government area in northern Adamawa, as part of efforts to enforce the state’s directive.
The Adamawa State government, led by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, implemented the ban to prevent disruptions and maintain peace across the state. The NSCDC, in a statement released on Tuesday, emphasized that the arrests demonstrate their commitment to upholding these rules.
“The Executive Order was issued to safeguard public safety and security and to prevent farmer-herder clashes that often result from unauthorized movements,” the NSCDC stated.
Nyako Baba, the NSCDC spokesperson, disclosed that some of the arrested individuals were not residents of Adamawa, further highlighting the need to enforce the ban to protect the state’s stability.
“Investigations are still ongoing, and upon conclusion, the suspects will be prosecuted in a court of competent jurisdiction,” the NSCDC assured.
The arrested herdsmen will face prosecution as a warning to others considering similar violations. The NSCDC stressed the importance of following government directives to ensure peace and order in the region.
“The NSCDC is resolute in its mission to uphold the law and will continue working tirelessly to ensure compliance with the Executive Order,” the statement added.
This action underscores the efforts of the NSCDC and the state government in safeguarding Adamawa’s security and harmony.
