Nigerian comedian Funny Bone recently expressed disappointment with Reno Omokri, a former presidential aide, over his comments about Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi. Omokri took to social media to mock Obi’s perspective on marriage, stirring reactions across platforms.
The drama began when Peter Obi shared his views on marriage loyalty, stating that he would not leave his wife even if she was unfaithful. Omokri seized on this comment, linking it to a recent scandal involving a top official in Equatorial Guinea. In this case, Baltasar Ebang Engonga, a senior figure in the country’s financial agency, was allegedly caught on camera with multiple women, including family members of high-ranking officials.
Omokri’s post suggested that Obi’s acceptance of marital infidelity might mean he would overlook corruption, questioning if someone who isn’t strict about personal loyalty could manage public integrity. He argued that a leader indifferent to fidelity in marriage might also ignore corruption within his administration.
Funny Bone didn’t hold back in his response. He left a comment on Omokri’s post, calling the remarks inappropriate and urging Omokri to “let some things slide.” The comedian’s message was clear: “Reno!! This is beneath you. Too low for your standards. Too low. Learn to let some things slide. This one, no enter, bro.”
This exchange highlights ongoing debates on social media, as public figures voice their opinions on politics and personal beliefs, with the public often quick to react. Funny Bone’s call for respectful discourse resonated with many, with supporters agreeing that some topics deserve more sensitivity in the public eye.
“If you don’t care if your wife is having affairs outside, how will you care if your officials are stealing government money? Look at the matter rationally. Are you saying that you will value government money more than your wife’s fidelity? Then why did you name your bank Fidelity Bank? If that is what fidelity means to you, then is our money safe in your bank?
A President who does not care if his wife has affairs outside will breed many Balthazar Ebang Engongas around him. It is a very indecent thing to have said and is indicative of disrespect for the sanctity of marriage. Such a person lacks the moral authority to be the President of Nigeria and may want to move to a country where his lax morals align with their way of life.
To even say such a thing in public is shameful!”.
Reacting to it, via his comment section, Funny Bone lashed out at Omokri.
He wrote:

Too low for your standards.
Too low. Learn to let some things slide.
This one, no enter, bro”.
