A shocking robbery in Eastleigh, Nairobi, has left many residents uneasy after a newly hired house help allegedly planned an attack on her employer’s home. The incident took place in the Ushirika Tower estate, where the house help reportedly helped an accomplice enter the residence and steal valuable items.
According to authorities, the house help, identified as Everlyne, allowed the assailant, believed to be a Ugandan national, to enter the sixth-floor apartment. The assailant used a hammer to break into the home, where he then attacked another domestic worker named Hakimo Muhidin, a 20-year-old Somali woman. Security footage shows Everlyne watching as her accomplice carried out the assault.
Muhidin sustained serious injuries from the attack, including a broken tooth and injuries to her head, hands, and legs. Investigators also noted whip marks on her back, indicating the extent of the violence. After receiving medical attention, she is now recovering at a relative’s home, though she remains traumatized.
The robbery involved the theft of several valuable items, including gold jewellery, cash in both Kenyan and U.S. currency, and four laptops. At the time, the employer was away with his children, and his wife was in India for medical treatment, leaving the home vulnerable.
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja confirmed the incident, adding that police are actively searching for the suspects and following up on leads. He reassured the public that detectives are working diligently to bring those responsible to justice.
This incident has raised concerns about the safety of employing new domestic workers without a thorough background check. Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward, as the search for Everlyne and her accomplice continues.
