First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu are leading a national prayer event in Nigeria to address the country’s urgent issues.
Organized by the National Prayer Forum (NPF), the event has the support of Christian and Muslim leaders. Its goal is to seek God’s assistance with Nigeria’s economic, security, and social problems.
During a press briefing in Abuja, Chief Segun Balogun Afolorunikan, the Director General of NPF, announced the initiative. He stressed that the theme, “Seeking the Intervention of God in Nigeria’s Affairs,” highlights the need for unity and prayer in overcoming national challenges.
The prayer sessions will take place at two main venues. Muslims will meet at the National Mosque in Abuja for seven days of Qur’anic recitation, with 313 participants aiming to recite the Quran 2,191 times to pray for national stability. Meanwhile, Christian prayer warriors from various denominations will gather at the National Ecumenical Centre for a week of intense prayer focused on Nigeria’s difficulties.
To encourage broad participation, the NPF has consulted with leaders from the Christian Association of Nigeria, the National Mosque, and traditional figures like the Sultan of Sokoto. Afolorunikan expressed hope that through unity and prayer, Nigeria can enter 2025 with renewed hope and purpose.
