A government investigative panel has confirmed that Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, did serve his six-month jail sentence in a correctional center and not in a private apartment, as was previously rumored. The panel, set up by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, was tasked with investigating claims that Bobrisky stayed outside of prison during his sentence from April 12, 2024, to August 5, 2024.
The rumors started after an audio recording was released by VDM, in which Bobrisky claimed he spent his time in a flat near the prison rather than in a cell. However, Uju Agomoh, the Executive Director of Prisoners’ Rehabilitation and Welfare Action (PRAWA) and a member of the investigative panel, stated that there is no evidence to support this claim.
“The panel did not find any evidence thus far that suggested Mr. Okuneye slept outside the custodial center during the period of his imprisonment”Vanguard quotes Uju as saying
According to Agomoh, Bobrisky did serve his jail term in the correctional facility and was subject to the regular remission of time, which reduced the length of his sentence. However, the investigation also found that Bobrisky enjoyed certain privileges while serving his sentence, though the nature of these privileges was not disclosed.
The panel was created after the public became aware of Bobrisky’s claims, leading to concerns about how the high-profile individual was treated during his time in prison. The Minister of Interior decided to launch an inquiry to ensure that the rule of law was upheld.
In summary, while the panel found that Bobrisky did not spend his jail term outside of prison, they confirmed that he received some preferential treatment compared to other inmates.
