Reuben Abati Criticizes Minister of State for Petroleum, Heineken, Over Claims of $50 Billion Oil Sector Investment in Nigeria

In a recent press conference in Abuja, Heineken Lokpobiri, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum, announced that the country is expecting $50 billion in investments in the oil sector by December. He emphasized that the government is addressing concerns from both local and foreign investors. Lokpobiri also mentioned ambitious plans to increase oil production to 2.7 million barrels per day, claiming that Nigeria continues to be a major player in Africa’s energy landscape.

However, journalist Reuben Abati was quick to respond, expressing skepticism about Lokpobiri’s optimistic statements. Abati criticized the Minister, suggesting that his repeated bold claims lack credibility. He urged Lokpobiri to refrain from making comments that may not be grounded in reality, stating, “If he has nothing to say, he should keep quiet.”

Abati’s remarks reflect a growing concern among many Nigerians regarding the government’s promises and the actual situation in the oil sector. As the nation grapples with various economic challenges, the call for transparency and honesty in public statements becomes more pressing.

“He does not know what he is talking about. He constantly puts his foot in his mouth. Let him just stay in his allegiance to Nyesom Wike where he can speak with great certainty. The other time he was saying the refineries will produce so, so, so….no refinery is producing anything ..now he is saying $50 billion worth of investment by December…because Tinubunis a miracle worker. December is just two months away. If the Minister has nothing to say, he should keep quiet’’
