Akwa Ibom Gov. Umo Eno appoints his daughter as the Acting First Lady following the passing of his wife

The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, has appointed his daughter, Helen Eno-Obareki, as the Acting First Lady following the death of his wife, Pastor Patience Eno. The announcement was made on Friday during a condolence visit from Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and other important dignitaries in Uyo, Akwa Ibom.

Governor Eno explained that his daughter would take on the responsibilities of the First Lady, ensuring that the office and its projects, particularly the Golden Initiative For All, continue without interruption. This initiative, started by his late wife, focuses on supporting the less privileged, and the governor expressed his confidence in Helen to carry forward her mother’s work.

“To maintain the Office of the First Lady and carry forward my late wife’s work, I present our daughter, Helen, to continue the duties of the office. She will work closely with the Deputy Governor and the Commissioner for Women’s Affairs and Social Welfare,” the governor said.

In an emotional statement, the governor described his wife as his greatest supporter and toughest critic, remembering their strong bond throughout the years. He admitted that her absence cannot be filled, but he is committed to honoring her memory by continuing the work she was passionate about through the First Lady’s office.

During the visit, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu praised the governor’s decision, stating that appointing Helen was a wonderful way to preserve Pastor Patience Eno’s legacy. She expressed confidence that Helen would do well in this role and make her mother proud.

Offering words of encouragement to the new First Lady, Mrs Tinubu said, “Your mom didn’t bring you to me for nothing, and it’s a blessing that your mom’s colleagues and the Vice President’s wife are here to support you. I know you well, and I believe God will guide you. You will accomplish even more than your mother, and He will grant you good health.”

In a lighter moment, Governor Eno addressed circulating rumors about him planning to remarry. He humorously dismissed the idea during a visit from Senate President Godswill Akpabio, making it clear that his focus remains on continuing his late wife’s legacy.

He said, “I’m not considering remarrying anytime soon. I don’t have the money to pay another bride price.”

Governor Eno reassured the people of Akwa Ibom that the programs and initiatives started by his late wife would continue to thrive, with his daughter leading the way in preserving her mother’s vision.
