The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has arrested and released former Imo State Governor and Senator, Rochas Okorocha, on bail following his interrogation over allegations of criminal conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.
Okorocha was reportedly arrested on Monday night at REIZ Continental Hotel in central Abuja.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Aniete Iniedu, confirmed the arrest and subsequent release to Channels Television, stating that the former governor was released on bail after about an hour of interrogation.
According to the police spokesperson, Okorocha was directed to return to the Force Headquarters on Tuesday for further questioning as investigations into the allegations continue.
The arrest reportedly followed his failure to honour previous police invitations in connection with the ongoing investigation.
Okorocha was initially invited to appear at the Force Headquarters on September 2, but the appointment was rescheduled to September 8 at the request of his lawyers. He reportedly failed to honour the rescheduled invitation.
The police are expected to continue their investigation into the allegations, while Okorocha is expected to return for further questioning as directed by the authorities.
