The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has annulled Edo Queens’ victory over Ghanaian side Ampem Darkoa Ladies in the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU-B qualifying final after ruling that the match was not concluded in accordance with competition regulations.
The decision followed a protest by Ampem Darkoa over the failure to play extra time after the final ended 2-2 in Ouagadougou on September 5.
Edo Queens had won the subsequent penalty shootout 4-1 to claim the WAFU-B title and secure qualification for the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League.
However, CAF ruled that the decision to proceed directly to penalties contravened Article 72.4 of the WAFU-B Regulations, which provides for two 15-minute periods of extra time when the final is level after 90 minutes. Penalties are only to be taken if the scores remain level after the additional 30 minutes.
Under the ruling, Edo Queens’ shootout victory has been set aside, with the final to resume from the 2-2 scoreline.
Both teams will now play 30 minutes of extra time, comprising two 15-minute periods. If the scores remain level after extra time, the winner will be decided by a penalty shootout.
The eventual winner will secure the WAFU-B zone’s qualification berth for the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League.
