Two killed, scores injured, houses burnt as bandits unleash violence on another Plateau community

At least two people have been killed, many others injured, and several houses and food storage areas destroyed after suspected bandits attacked a village in Plateau State. The incident happened in Pwomol village, located in Heipang District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, on the night of April 5.

The National President of the Berom Youth Moulders Association, Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, confirmed the attack in a social media post. He said the attackers, who were heavily armed, stormed the community around midnight and started shooting. Two young men were killed, while many others were injured as they tried to escape into nearby bushes.

Mwantiri also revealed that this was the second attack on the same community within one week. He added that the attackers not only shot at residents but also set houses and food barns on fire.

He further stated that one of the suspects, who identified himself as Suleiman from a Fulani community in Riyom Local Government Area, was caught and handed over to security operatives.

According to him, the suspect was arrested near the Redemption Camp area between Heipang and Kassa, with blood stains found on his body. He is currently being held by security forces in Sector 4 of Barkin Ladi.

Mwantiri called on security agencies to carry out a proper and transparent investigation and ensure that the arrested suspect is quickly brought to justice.

He also urged authorities to get useful information from the suspect that could help arrest other people involved in the attack.

The BYM President praised the quick response of the Special Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace, and advised residents to stay alert and report any suspicious activities to security agencies.
