Jos attack: Why Tinubu addressed victims at airport – Presidency

The Presidency has explained why Bola Tinubu addressed victims of the recent Jos attacks at the airport instead of visiting affected communities directly. Officials said the decision was due to time and logistical challenges.

According to the statement, Tinubu had a packed schedule, including a meeting with Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno. The meeting focused on strengthening security cooperation between Nigeria and Chad.

After receiving a briefing from Caleb Mutfwang, Tinubu reportedly cancelled another planned trip and arranged an urgent visit to Jos. However, delays from earlier engagements affected his movement.

The Presidency explained that the airport in Jos could not support night operations due to lack of proper equipment. This made it difficult for the President to continue his visit to affected areas after arrival.

Government officials then arranged for representatives of the victims to meet with the President at a nearby location. Security chiefs had earlier visited the affected communities to assess the situation.

Tinubu used the meeting to express sympathy to victims and promised stronger action to restore peace. He also pledged improved security measures, including the deployment of advanced surveillance technology.
