A 12-year-old boy has appeared in a UK court accused of sexually assaulting a woman in her 60s, leaving her seriously injured.

The victim was discovered at a property north of Birmingham around 6:15 pm on March 18, bleeding heavily and barely conscious.

Prosecutor Colin Charvill told the Birmingham Youth Court that the woman had cuts to her chest and face and was placed in an induced coma.

The boy has been charged with sexual assault, wounding, theft, and intentional strangulation relating to an alleged incident on February 11.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to all charges and was remanded to youth detention ahead of an April 21 appearance at Birmingham Crown Court.

West Midlands Police said investigations are ongoing and urged anyone with information to report via the Major Incident Public Portal or call 101.
